Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard

Product Description

Description

Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard is a laminate of Polyfoam, high performance extruded polystyrene insulation and a tough, weather resistant fibre reinforced cement facing board. It is thermally efficient, lightweight and provides Class 1 surface spread of flame, yet provides a tough faced solution suitable for fully exposed or semi exposed use. Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard is square edged.

Performance

Thermal Performance
In a typical concrete soffit construction the standard thickness of Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard will achieve a U-value of 0.25 W/m2K. For project specific calculations please contact our Technical Advisory Centre team on 01744 76 66 66.

Fire Performance
Polyfoam insulation contains a flame retardant which inhibits localised ignition. Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard is faced with a 6mm fibre reinforced cement board which offers excellent fire performance as a facing material and is classified as Class 1 Surface spread of flame to BS 476: Part 7: 1987.

Moisture Resistance
Polyfoam insulation is highly resistant to moisture and can be installed in damp areas or during moist conditions with minimal impact on the performance of the insulation. Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard has a moisture resistant facing which makes the product suitable for exterior, long term exposure applications.

Compression Resistance
Polyfoam insulation is highly resistant to moisture and can be installed in damp areas or during moist conditions with minimal impact on the performance of the insulation. Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard has a moisture resistant facing which makes the product suitable for exterior, long term exposure applications.

Application

For thermal insulation and lining beneath ‘above ground’ floors in residential and non-residential applications. The Polyfoam Soffit Linerboards are 2400 x 1200mm for maximum coverage per sheet. Polyfoam Soffit Linerboards are easy to handle and ideal for soffit lining and underlining of ‘above ground’ floors. The Polyfoam extruded polystyrene insulation used in this solution offers excellent thermal performance at light weights and has high compression resistance to ensure a smooth solid finish can be easily achieved.

Installation

Polyfoam Soffit Linerboard is fixed directly to the structure using a suitable mechanical insulation fixing of types as recommended for soffit linings by Hilti, Ejot, Fischer or similar to support a solution of c. 9kg/m2. This is typically eight fixings in a 2400 x 1200mm sheet, though Knauf Insulation advise you to seek specific fixing numbers advice based on the structure being insulated.

For ease of fixing the facing board can be pre-drilled at fixing points prior to horizontal working. At junctions and edges care should be taken to ensure the insulation is covered with cement board at all times (or a suitable flashing at edges). Where necessary a flexible fire resistant sealant should be used to manitain the integrity of the surface.

For more detailed information please refer to the Knauf Insulation, Solutions for Buildings binder section: Upper Floors: Non Residential.

Handling and Storage

Polyfoam Soffit Linerboards are supplied on non-returnable wooden pallets wrapped in a polythene shroud for temporary protection during transit and on site. For longer term outside storage (stock or site) the pallets should be stored under a secure waterproof covering. If the boards do get wet allow them to thoroughly dry before installation. When cutting the facing board it is advisable to wear a face mask to guard against dust. No special protective clothing is required.
